Botallack Mine presents the image of an engine house at Botallack mine during a storm. A large wave strikes the cliff while the sea foams around it and ominous dark clouds gather above. The Crowns engine houses are an impressive sight, seeming to hang from the steep cliffs on the Cornish coast. The former mine buildings have also been used as a backdrop to the television series Poldark. Taken from an original screen print.
Gareth Ellis lives and works in Cornwall with his prints depicting his favourite subjects; Cornwall and the sea. Gareth enjoys the challenge of simplifying Cornish landscapes and coastal scenes into basic forms and depicting light and shade with minimal print layers. Gareth primarily works from pencil sketches which he uses in his screen prints and digital prints.
