Description
Ceramic Engine House. Hand built pottery by Paul Welling. Stoneware clay with glaze. Measures 15cm high and 8cm wide. The chimney has a base and is fully glazed so it can be used as a vase. Handmade in Cornwall. Due to the variations in the glazing and firing process each piece will differ slightly from the photo.
Ceramic Engine House is hand sculpted and inspired by the Wheal Coates Engine Houses in St Agnes. It has been made by hand in Paul’s studio with local clay dug in St Agnes. When completed, finessed and dried, it is biscuit fired in an electric kiln to 900 degrees celsius. When cool, the Engine House is checked, dusted and the exterior is dip-glazed. It is then fired for a second time.
Paul Welling’s work is motivated by the inspiration he finds in nature. Originally hailing from East Anglia, Paul spent most of his life working in the media industry in various locations around the world and settled on the north coast of Cornwall, UK, where he now creates contemporary ceramics reflecting the rugged surrounding Cornish landscape and seascapes.
Paul creates centrepiece vessels and objet d’art for both home and garden which echo the rich, earthy colours of Cornwall: from old mining buildings to natural rock formations, along with the wild & dramatic North Atlantic Ocean with its beautiful ranges of greys and blues. Paul’s ceramics are crafted from heavily textured clays, often using black clay, along with hardwearing stoneware with oxide pigments to colour.
Due to the fragile nature of this item there is a UK postage charge for this item.
